Group Think Tank - What other questions should be addressed with the possible relocation of 9 cemeteries?

Read more at this thread

  • Will the proposed action and the Draft EIS discuss the long-term plan for the preservation of the nine historical cemeteries affected?
  • Has the State of Louisiana Department of Culture Recreation and Tourism, Louisiana Unmarked Burial Sites Board been notified of the proposed action and the Draft EIS?
  • Will local historians, genealogist, archaeologists and Save Our Cemeteries offer impact statements concerning the nine cemeteries affected?
  • What other cemeteries in Louisiana have been relocated and where can I find more information about the process of relocating a cemetery? It appears that 9 cemeteries in Washington Parish will be affected and possibly relocated due to a reservior project.
  • Can anyone think of any other obvious questions that should be addressed with the likelihood of nine cemeteries requiring relocation?

Morehouse Parish Cemeteries

On March 30, 2008 the following post indicated several cemeteries in Morehouse Parish were neglected and or abandoned. Three of those cemeteries, (Chapel Cemetery-Beagle Club Rd., Whispering Pines Cemetery-Martin L. King South and Howard's Hill Cemetery-Collinston), are under investigation by the Police Jury in order to correct issues of neglect. [ June 23, 2008 ]
Abandoned cemetery: (Alexander) Lawson Cemetery at Levee Road & HIghway 165 North, Bastrop, LA, in woods beyond field that fronts HIghway 165 North.

Neglected Cemeteries: (1) Cooper Lake Cemetery at Cooper Lake Road between Jeannie Road and Warner Road, Bastrop, LA; (2) Wimberly Cemetery (aka Pipe's Cemetery), Oak Ridge, LA; turn left on Avenue Road (HIghway 134) for 1.5 miles to Pipe Lane in Oak Ridge, LA. Turn left on Pipe Lane, drive for about one-half mile for cemetery on left. (3) Washington Chapel Cemetery: From HIghway 425 North turn left on Beagle Club Road. Turn left from Beagle Club Road onto Copeland Road, Bastrop, LA. Travel three-tenths of a mile to a locked double gate on the right side of Copeland Road before it deadends. Cemetery is through the double gate behind a dilapidated building. The cemetery also extends into the overgrowth of trees to the right of the unmowed front portion of this cemetery; ((4) Whispering Pines Cemetery, from the intersection of Commerce Avenue and Martin Luther King Road South, travel one-tenth of a mile on Martin Luther King Drive South. Whispering Pines Cemetery is on your left. (5) Howell Cemetery (aka Howard's Hill Cemetery), Collinston, LA.
